kopania-nowaruda

The mine in Nowa Ruda is among the oldest in Poland. The first information of its existence can be found in the early 15th century. After 1989, al of the mines were shut down. Years later a museum was opened here.

A visit to the museum starts at the main building, where we can see exhibits of underground mining, and get to know the history of coal extraction in Lower Silesia. The underground portions of the museum feature furnaces and pithead gear. Most interesting, however, is the 700 m long underground railway. Here we can get a full review of mining technology, see the enormous machines and view numerous examples of equipment and mining structures used in the extraction of coal.

The Museum of Mining is found in Nowa Ruda, a few kilometres from the Czech border, between the Sowie Mountains and Wlodzicki Hills.
